Matthew from Milford DePhil Collins & Sonic Youth go together like garlic salt & cinnamon, it was Flaming Youth, Brand X was a band that Collins weaved in & out of from 76/79 but always put Genesis first, then of course his solo career in later years. Collins was/is probably one of the busiest musicians that ever lived. Suppers Ready needs no explanation of "What it's about" listen to it & what you get from it, well, that's what it's about. MY OPINION : it's a love song, a biblical battle, with Gabriel's English absurd humor to top it off "As sure as eggs is eggs" I due amanti iniziano un viaggio in universi bislacchi, inconsueti, e ritornano quando il mondo è alla sua ultima pagina e qualcuno sta scrivendo la parola “fine”.

Once we'd done that, it took on a whole other level. The drums were in there playing heavily and it became such a big thing. And, I think particularly, the climax which occurs with the 'Apocalypse in 9/8,' which is a sort of extended keyboard solo that ends in massive chords with fantastic vocal performance from Peter, it still really works. Dalla finestra spalancata, Peter vide strane figure con tuniche bianche nel prato che non era il solito prato della casa dei genitori di Jill. At this point Phil would again play the hi-hat and Peter would whistle a version of the hymn "Jerusalem" [more of which in note (37)] ) Ikhnaton's fanaticism was his undoing. He defaced every monument carved with the name of Amon, previously the greatest god of Egypt. The Aten cult died with Ikhnaton because the sentiments of the priesthood and the people were outraged by his destruction of their traditions and by his terror-filled reign.

7. Peter Gabriel’s Costumes

Part 5 – Willow Farm: This section is the most whimsical and humorous part of the song. It is set in a pastoral farm where the inhabitants are all madcap characters with nonsensical names such as Supper’s Ready and Magog.

The Pied Piper of Hamelin' is a legend about the abduction of many children from the town of Hamelin (Hameln), Germany. Famous versions of the legend are given by the Brothers Grimm and, in English, by Robert Browning. Ikhnaton has been called by historian "the first individual in history", as well as the first monotheist, first scientist, and first romantic. Gabriel has also been quoted by some as saying he felt he was "led" to the various sources he used in putting together the lyrics for the song. Sette come i pezzi di Supper’s Ready, sette come i suoni di tromba nel Libro dell’Apocalisse all’apertura del settimo sigillo da parte di uno dei quattro cavalieri dell’Apocalisse, quello bianco.

1. It’s 23 minutes long

Joseph from Montreal, QcQ-Does anybody know the name of the group that Phil Collins played with before Genesis? And did those feet..." is, of course, the first part of name of the poem "And did those feet in ancient time", by William Blake. Today it is best known as the hymn "Jerusalem", with music written by C. Hubert H. Parry in 1916, and popularized during World War I. That music is performed in part as "Jerusalem Boogie" by the band during the live show of Supper's Ready (see note (1) ), and a version of it performed by Emerson Lake and Palmer on their album "Brain Salad Surgery". Supper's Ready The story of the band, Genesis, has taken almost three decades to unfold. From the earliest, struggling days in England to their commercial breakthrough mid-period (post- Peter Gabriel) to their pop and dance hits of their later years, Genesis have always created a stir. Yet, it is the first half of this band's career that most of their fans care about. Genesis created something new stylistically and musically. It wasn't until the late1970's that most of the world would pay attention. Genesis music from that period is revered because of its complexity and musicality. It sounded unusual and intricate compared to other music of that time but it had such great melodies and compelling rhythms that even the most left-field songs became favorites of the musically aware.

Welcome to the annotated lyrics to the epic song that is the 23 minute long opus, "Supper's Ready"! Such a complex work as this can be befuddling to the average listener, and so these noted are provided for the complete lunatic who wishes to know more. The information here is from various sources, some of them cited and others not, as this is not meant to be an academic work. Most sources are as accurate as possible, however, and hopefully there is not too much of the editor's belief imposed onto the structure of the song, as it should be left up to the listener/reader. One of the main sources is The Genesis Discography by members of the online magazine Paperlate, from the section on song meanings, collecting various anecdotes from band members and other sources. Wkipedia and other internet resources were also used. Several books on the band and it's members were used as well. Finally, the story in red that accompanies the lyrics is from a programme handed out during one of the early tours. The lovers come across a town dominated by two characters; one a benevolent farmer and the other the head of a highly disciplined scientific religion. The latter likes to be known as "The Guaranteed Eternal Sanctuary Man" and claims to contain a secret new ingredient capable of fighting fire. This is a falsehood, an untruth, a whopper and a taradiddle, or to put it in clearer terms; a lie. Zach from Buffalo, Ny"Why don't you touch me, touch me, touch me, now now now now now" is from the closing section of The Musical Box, from Nursery Cryme (1971), not from Supper's Ready. The song took form in the summer of 1972, when Genesis dedicated time to write new songs after touring Nursery Cryme. After the opening acoustic sections were arranged, it was considered a companion piece to " The Musical Box" until Gabriel pitched the tune "Willow Farm", which took the song into a different direction. Genesis extended the piece further, culminating in the final two sections, "Apocalypse in 9/8" and "As Sure as Eggs is Eggs", which the band felt was some of their strongest recorded material. On the contrary, Nicholas Reeves in his book Akhenaten: Egypt's False Prophet portrays a totally different image of Pharaoh, seeing his religious reformations as mere attempts for centralizing power and solidify his role as "divine monarch".

Pythagoras and his students believed that everything was related to mathematics and that numbers were the ultimate reality and, through mathematics, everything could be predicted and measured in rhythmic patterns or cycles. According to Iamblichus, Pythagoras once said that "number is the ruler of forms and ideas and the cause of gods and demons." Compare this with Peter's programme where Pythagoras - a greek extra in this drama - is deliriously happy that he has measured out just enought milk and honey on his cornflakes - a measurement of taste? Is there really no accounting for taste? Scientifically speaking - yes. Also, if number is the cause of gods and demons, then compare this with note (32). Once again we have the G.E.S.M. offering eternal life, but only if they are a part of his religion. Compare with modern Church practices.Bowman, Durrell (2016). Experiencing Peter Gabriel: A Listener's Companion. Rowman & Littlefield. p.29. ISBN 9781442252004. Supper's Ready" was performed live in its entirety for the first time at Brunel University in Uxbridge, on 10 November 1972, several months into the Foxtrot Tour. [25] [26] The tour lasted until mid-1973, by which time it became a centrepiece of the live show and a showcase for Gabriel's on-stage storytelling and costumes to act out the various parts. Genesis performed the song during their subsequent tour promoting the next album, Selling England by the Pound (1973), until April 1974. Following Gabriel's departure in the following year, Genesis performed "Supper's Ready" live in 1976, 1977, and in 1982. The final two sections were performed twice in 1978 and in 1986 as part of a medley of the group's old material. A shortened version of the song was rehearsed for The Last Domino? Tour, but ultimately not performed. [27] Who are these birds? And to what does Supper's Ready refer to? Fasten your seatbelt and read onwards... Sometimes Phil Collins would pretend he wasn't listening by saying "I'm sorry everybody, I wasn't actually paying attention to what he was saying", then start playing a jazzy little riff on the hi-hat. Peter would then improvise some vocal sounds like "Bom tiddly BAM toodly doobim toodoo" or something like that.) E dal testo di Supper’s Ready ora si avverte che non solo tutti gli oggetti e le persone stanno cambiando, ma tutto sta mutando per prepararsi a qualcosa che sta per accadere.
